R.A. OBrien is a social scientist. She has studied fine art, run a chicken shop, worked in a bank, and taught statistics. Her publications include a scientific paper with a Martian, as well as more conventional papers and reports; but stories are what drive her. These days she lives in Tasmania and her garden is frequented by pademelons. Her favorite food group is champagne, which she likes to consume while watching her furry friends. She writes weird stories that are often influenced by her PhD on unconscious learning and by her experience in the internecine ways of government. Her short stories have received multiple Honorable Mentions in the Writers of the Future Contest and have been published in Abyss and Apex and in ACE III, an annual anthology of short stories from Australian emerging writers.
